After School Archery Club (2016-2017)

Dear Parents of Grade 4-6 students,

We are very excited to offer an after school archery program to our grade 4-6 students again this year!  This club was heavily subsidized through donations from the Safari Club International, AHEIA and the Brazeau Bow Benders last year. As a result of these donations we are able to offer this extracurricular activity at a very minimal cost to students. To cover the cost of a team shirt, instructor re-certification, wear and tear on the equipment and the future purchase of new equipment each student will need to pay a fee of $25.00. As the club progresses and we are able to determine the actual number of students that are taking part in our club we may need to do some fundraising to cover the costs of the club and any special trips or competitions the students choose to take part in. All our instructors have taken the Basic Archery Instructor Training offered by NASP to ensure quality instruction and safety for all participants.

We will be offering this program from 3:30 until 4:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  It is open to any student attending Aurora in Grades 4-6. We are going to start next week so don’t delay in getting your form back to the office.  We are expecting high interest in the club again this year and thus students will be assigned to either the Tuesday or Wednesday group. This will allow students to practice once a week and still maintain a manageable, fun and safe number of students in the gym at any one time. The season will officially begin January 17th for Tuesday, archers and January 18th for Wednesday archers. However, NEW Archers will start early to get some important Safety Procedures learnt. This session is MANDATORY and will take place on December 13th and 14th. ALL New Archers MUST attend ONE of these two safety sessions. Students will need to pay their $25.00 fee and return their permission form to the office by the 9th of December. This fee will cover the whole 2017 season of instruction and use of equipment. We will be running regular season until the Canadian Nationals Competition in April! Students will receive a note with their scheduled dates of practice on Monday January 9th once the groups have been finalized.

Please fill out and return the attached form with the fee if you would like your child to participate.  Based on past experience from other extracurricular activities we have had to set up several special conditions for participation:

  • the parent permission portion of this letter must be signed and returned before

a student will be allowed to attend

  • parents are responsible for their child’s transportation home at 4:30 p.m.
  • siblings of participants are not allowed to ‘watch’ or ‘wait’ at school

(we do not have supervision for these students and have experienced some problems in the past)

  • range rules and school rules apply, there will be zero tolerance for misbehavior due to the nature

of the club and thus misbehavior will result in the withdrawal of this after school privilege

We are also aware that many of our returning archers and possibly some of our new archers have invested in their own archery equipment so that they can partake in this hobby during their free time outside of school. This year we would like to offer our archers the opportunity to use this equipment more often and become used to the bow they will shoot in competitions. In order to do this, we will be allowing students that own Original Genesis Bows (must be the same bow as we have at school) to store their bow at school and shoot it during their regular practice time. Before students are allowed to use their own equipment it must be approved and inspected by Ms. Gathercole or Mrs. Karach. We can also help you make adjustments and set up your bow if you would like our assistance! If you have any further questions about equipment, please contact Ms. Gathercole at the school.

*** Please understand that we will need to split the students between Monday and Wednesday because of our limited amount of equipment and gym space. To try and accommodate as many students as possible we would like you to rank the two choices according to which would ideally work best for you and your child. We cannot guarantee that you will be placed in your group of choice but we will try our best!

Sincerely, Your Aurora Archery Instructors

Tuesday Night Archery Club

Dear Parents,

As expected, Aurora students have shown a great deal of interest in our After School Archery Club. As a result of this we split the interested students into two groups to provide everyone with the most instructional and shooting time possible.

Your son or daughter will be part of the Tuesday Group.  This means your child will have Archery Club every Tuesday from 3:30- 4:30pm. The only exception to this will be, the first Tuesday of each month due to Aurora Staff Meetings. Students will receive instruction on bow maintenance, safety, shooting target archery and body strengthening exercises.

Range rules and school rules apply, there will be zero tolerance for misbehavior due to the nature of the club and thus misbehavior will result in the withdrawal of this after school privilege.

***Please note ALL students must attend January 17th and 24th to review safety and shooting steps or they will be unable to participate for the duration of the season. This is important to ensure the safety of all participants.

NEW ARCHERS must also attend a safety session Dec. 13th ***
